Recipe | Ginger Lemonade

So the weather is picking up and so are our moods. This is the time of year I associate with good old fashioned homemade lemonade, sold out your front yard with a 5 cents sign above it.

Oh wait that’s just on Tele. And I definitely deal with pound sterling.

But still lemonade none the less nursing our senses into the summer weather. I thought I would go one step beyond the traditional lemonade and add some zingy, warm ginger. It rounds off ginger and makes it feel a bit more sophisticated. I imagine mint would be lovely too! And Rosie of The Londoner did one with Basil that sounded scrummy!

1cup sugar
1cup water
6 lemonsΒ  (rind of 4 and juice of all)
4 cups cold water
4 tsp fresh ginger

Put the sugar and 1 cup of water in to a pan and simmer till the sugar has dissolved. Once dissolved put to the side and allow to cool.

Whilst the sugar syrup is cooling its time to work on the lemons, remove the rind of 4 lemons. Then get to the juicy bit, I like to do it in the style of Jamie Oliver, squeezing by hand. It’s like a citrussy stressball. But if you would prefer to do it more civilized, you could use a squeezer.

Add the lemon juice to the sugar syrup and top with the cold water. Grate over about 4 tsp of ginger, remember to peel the skin off before!

As it’s Friday why not make it a bit more adult and add a dash or a good gulp of your favourite tipple!
