Last week was hot, I’m holding out hope the warm weather might surge back, but even if it doesn’t this cute little Japanese bakery is definitely worth a visit.
They have lines of perfectly identical pastries, buns, sweet joys (a peculiar swirly pipe filled with ice cream) and the thier signature fish shaped ice cream cones.
Hot on a Monday lunchtime I trapsed over to the crazily crowded China town. Bake, right at the Wardour street entrance to China town is calm, cool and well organised compared to the crazy sea of tourists that wash past outside.
The matcha green tea ice cream in a fish cone was all that I wanted and boy was it good. Subtly flavoured with matcha, it’s more about the garish experience of eating green ice cream – but for those of you who really don’t like green tea there’s milk and mango flavour too! The cone is firm and substantial, but bite into the crispy shell its fluffy and soft like a waffle.
Something I didn’t expect was the chocolate straw. Always a nice addition, but this one was way more than just a pretty little tweal – you know when you get to the bottom of a cornetto and the delicious chocolate coats the innards of the cone, yep, that goes the whole way through this straw!!! I know want this for ALL my ice creams please & thank you!
Definitely worth a trip for the wow factor and rather mesmerising just to watch the machine pipe out all sorts of weird and wonderful shaped waffle cases.
