Right at the end of Stockbridge high street you’ll find the Scran & Scallie, a Bib Gourmand awarded gastropub. It came highly recommended by Patrick’s friend who studied up in Edinburgh, and a recommendation always counts for a lot. Spoiler: it doesn’t disappoint!
As we scanned the menu we got bread in a little muslin cloth bag and creamy butter.
Starters were the bone marrow for me & deer terrine for Patrick.
For mains Patrick got a Barnsley chop, which came with plentiful trimmings.
Whilst I went for the plaice, which I foolishly thought would not be filling and both of us being hungry, from walking the length and breadth of Edinburgh, we thought we’d order the red cabbage and the chorizo roasted potatoes as well.
The sides were absolutely delicious, the roasties perfectly crispy and crunchy with a spice from the chorizo and the red cabbage, was sweet, well cooked with a bit of bite left in. But seriously, we did not need sides, the portions are huge an ever so filling.
If you’re in Edinburgh and fancy giving Scran & Scallie a visit, I’d recommend calling up and making reservations first, as even midweek evenings they were packed.
